Landscape & Irrigation Update Number 2

12 July 2011

Homestead Farm Irrigation & Landscape Project
UPDATE
6/28/11

At the regular meeting of the HFHOA Board, we discussed the state of the project and the near term future.  The following items were covered:

 Phase 1:
Mowing and light fertilization of the new grass area occurred this Monday and will be performed regularly.  Some sections of the newly seeded areas are now thick and strong enough to begin weed control.

Additional watering and seeding may occur to fill in remaining dirt spots, which are mainly in the areas along Holly between the sidewalk and the roadway.

Several ‘yard signs’ will be printed and posted in this area to alert the curious as to why our grass looks so poor.  The signs will say, “Pardon Our Appearance.  We are in the process of converting our turf to a grass that requires much less water.  We expect our appearance to look as good as it did before in a month or two.”

Fine tuning of the irrigation controllers will be ongoing all summer as will repair of faulty valves, so there may be dry spots that we need to address.

 Phase 2:
The tall grass on the north side of Fremont will be cut back to its previous level this coming Monday.  It will be mowed regularly again like the rest of the grass.

 Other regular upkeep and repair:
New mulched areas, new grass seed and some larger plants will be installed this week in the ‘dead grass area’ toward the east end of the Fremont hillside (closest to Holly).

Other dead grass areas, such as on the hill behind the pool, will be addressed in the coming weeks.

 Project Updates:
We will continue to send updates like this.  In addition, a general update meeting will be held at the pool at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 7.  We will cover all the same points from this document and the previous update last week, plus do Q&A.
